Concert schedule

FIB 2012, Benicàssim will be held between July 9 and 15 in the coastal town of Benicàssim, in Castellón. Those attending will be able to enjoy a free camping area from Monday 9th July, the day the programming for FIB Residence begins, with the presentation of FIB Art’s programme; a week full of cultural and leisure activities with its epicentre at the concert venue on July 12, 13, 14 and 15.

This new edition of FIB Benicàssim offers all the variety expected from such a popular international festival, with the aim of breaking new ground and not blindly following the road paved by others. Each day several thousand people that travel from all over the world (mainly from Spain and the UK), find in Benicàssim’s lineup and its unbeatable free week of camping next to the beach, the reasons to spend one of the best moments of the year; something they’ll never forget as long as they live.

This year’s lineup is headed by one name above all others: Bob Dylan, sparing any need for introduction, he’s been a rock legend for the past 50 years and has been on the organisation’s radar since, at the turn of the century we decided to combine new, up-and-coming talent with mythical and influential names from the history of pop and rock and roll. Before it became the norm at international festivals, FIB Benicàssim decided to open its stages to artists such as Brian Wilson, Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen, Donovan, Arthur Lee or Ray Davies, and to groups such as Magazine, B-52′s, Devo, Gang Of Four, Psychedelic Furs, The Undertones or The Stranglers (or Buzzcocks, this 2012), as a demonstration of respect, admiration and coherency. The presence of Bob Dylan is the cherry that tops the cake of all those efforts and is a gift to each and every one of the fibers that have grown up with the festival or have just recently discovered great part of the music we’ve always supported.

Along with Dylan, the festival fulfills two old dreams that go back to its first edition in 1995:  The Stone Roses (who came in 96, but not with their original formation as is the case this year) and New Order, one of the most influential bands in the mix of pop and electronic music that hasn’t ceased to entertain for the past decade and that hadn’t yet performed at FIB.

And, speaking of dreams that might remain unfulfilled, we’d also like to highlight the presence of The Venus 3, Robyn Hitchcock’s accompanying band, formed by two REM members (Peter Buck and Bill Rieflin) and another member of the live REM band, (Scott McCaughey, also leader of the Young Fresh Fellows).

From its first edition, the festival has shown an unquestionable, special interest for the British music scene. This year there’s a wide choice of pickings: Noel Gallagher, who had already visited Benicàssim fronting Oasis, returns this year to present his solo debut; Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. The Vaccines, Florence + The Machine, The Horrors, Bat For Lashes, The Maccabees, Bombay Bicycle Club, Miles Kane, Ed Sheeran or the shiny Spector and Django Django, represent a poppier side that contrasts with the electronic sounds of Katy B, Chase & Status, Example, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs or even Dizzee Rascal, who, along with De La Soul represents the recent veer of the festival towards hip-hop with a pop spirit.

Along with the growth of the festival in and outside of Spain, it has also opened up to top names in chart-pop like David Guetta and Jessie J or rawer sounds like the post-hardcore of the highly anticipated At The Drive-In, who lead a notable representation of American artists, with Kurt Vile & The Violators at the front closely followed by Disappears (with Steve Shelley from Sonic Youth at the drums), School of Seven Bells or Howler.

Quality electronic music will, as always, be there at the later hours, with names such as SebastiAn, Todd Terje, Yuksek, Maya Jane Coles, Dave Clarke or Oscar Mulero. And last but not least, a great Spanish representation with Pony Bravo, La Casa Azul, Klaus & Kinski or Jero Romero’s (The Sunday Drivers) solo debut.

FIB 2012’s lineup –with a few more names still to be added to round up the collection- is a demonstration of the coherent evolution, respectful with the past but inquiring and eager to experiment with the latest groups, of a festival that is proud to follow its own path and is widely acknowledged in Spain and internationally. The dreams we had at that first FIB, in 1995, have been fullfilled and now the festival is a world class event, internationally respected and one of the most important festivals in Southern Europe with a lineup and programme capable of attracting thousands of people from countries on different sides of the world. And it’s right here, in Benicàssim. Don’t miss it.

The cultural offer for the festival will be completed with the programme for FIB Residence:  FIB Residence: FIB Cinema, FIB Art, FIB Actúa, FIB Cursos and FIB Comedy. FIB will also collaborate Cita con la Danza.
